A Message from NWCSL League Secretary Geoff Walton
Hi Everyone
We wanted to update you all on my situation and also England Squash affiliation.
I will be moving to Oxford in January. I will do everything up to then and beyond that any disruption to NWCSL will be minimised. My role is split into two areas.
General Secretary
Match Secretary.
The General Secretary role is primarily administrative. Clare Wright has agreed to take over as General Secretary and we are so fortunate to have a person of her calibre. Clare has moved to the North West from Surrey where she played an active role in Surrey Squash. I will be working closely with Clare over the next 2 months to ensure a smooth transition.
The Match Secretary manages all areas related to players, teams and games which can be time consuming. As we have not been able to find anyone to take over the role of Match Secretary, it was decided at the last NWCSL Committee meeting to reintroduce Divisional Representatives. There will be 8 Divisional Representatives:
1 X Division 1 Representative
1 x Division 2 Representative managing all 3 Division 2's
2 x Division 3 Representatives each managing 3 of the 6 Division 3's
2 x Division 4 Representatives each managing 3 of the 6 Division 4'
2 x Division 5 Representatives each managing 3 of the 6 Division 5'
All player, team and game related matters would go through the respective divisional representatives. They would coordinate all actions, working closely with the General Secretary and the NWCSL Committee.
Again I will be working with all the Divisional Representatives to ensure minimal disruption to the league.
We expect the full transition to Divisional Representatives will be 1st January 2025.
Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
England Squash Affiliation:
As you and your players should now be aware that to play in the NWCSL you have to be a minimum Just Play member of England Squash. This will be enforced from the 1st November 2024.
What has up to now not been clear is do occasional players (players that play up to 3 times per season). have to be a Just Play member of England Squash. This was discussed in detail at the committee meeting on the 7th October. The Committee were concerned that players without England Squash membership would not be covered by England Squash’s insurance. Also, this enforcement of governing body membership for league squash is in line with most major squash leagues in England. It was agreed that all players that play in the NWCSL including occasional players must have the minimum Just Play England Squash membership. This will be enforced from the 1st November 2024.
